Are you trying to get off sugar? Here's what I use as a healthy alternative to eating chocolate bars when you are looking for a little sweet treat. The serving size for this recipe is two poppers so try not to eat five or six. I keep them in the freezer after I make them to keep them less accessible to overeating.
Protein Poppers:
Makes 3 dozen
1 cup almond butter
1.5 cups unsweetened coconut, shredded
8-10 figs or dates
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/4 cup ground flax
4 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp cocoa
1-2 scoops protein powder (chocolate or vanilla) splash of vanilla
1. Mix all ingredients in food processor until paste forms.
2. Form into bite sized balls with your hands.
3. Refrigerate and enjoy!!!
Now I would love to hear from you! What healthy alternative do you have for a treat? Leave a comment below and I'll be back next week on Doctor as Teacher Tuesdays.

Thanks for this suggestion – they are so helpful. I don’t have anything that I can eat like this for a treat – and with protein!! Wonderful.
You are welcome Pam!
After visiting Dr. Durkin I made some diet changes. One of them was my pancakes which used to be made from rice or potato flour. Now I use a delicious recipe made from almond flour. I’m surprised how good they are and they look like authentic pancakes.
I’ve tried coconut flour pancakes before but the flour is more dense and the recipe called for too many eggs and that’s all I could taste.
thanks for sharing healthier alternatives!
You are welcome Robert!
