Long gone are the Thanksgiving meals that leave me feeling bloated, tired, and wanting to put on my comfy pants an hour after eating. It only took making a few changes to our traditional meal and no one even noticed a difference.
So what's my secret?
I followed one simple rule - real food only.
No longer on the menu are the scalloped or mashed potatoes. No bread basket and no bread stuffing either. Not even ice cream for dessert. So if I'm not serving Thanksgiving staples, what exactly am I serving?
Here is the menu list that I used last year for a meal that served thirteen people:
Roasted turkey
Brussel sprout stuffing
Roasted root vegetables
Roasted beets with goat cheese and walnuts
Green salad
Sausage meat
Sweet potato soufflé
Apple pie
Pumpkin pie
Since the crowd favourite was the sweet potato soufflé I've included that recipe for you below.
Now I would love to hear from you! What is one modification that you can commit to following through with to make your Thanksgiving meal a healthier one? Let me know in the comments below and I'll be back next week with another edition of Doctor As Teacher Tuesday!

Hi Michelle,
The menu looks delicious! I’d like to try the sweet potato souffle. I understand the no bread no bread stuffing thing (refined carbs) but can you explain why no scalloped or mashed potatoes? Thanks.
Angela
Hi Angela,
Sweet potatoes are more nutrient dense so that is why I choose them instead.
