A fever is the body's perfect response to fighting infection.
Why is it that our society is so trigger happy to suppress that perfect response?
In a nutshell - fear.
Instead of taking the time, energy, and effort to educate parents on the judicious use of fever suppressing medication, it is a lot easier to make blanket statements about the dangers of febrile seizures if fevers are not treated immediately.
Here are 3 reasons to pause before automatically grabbing the pill bottle when dealing with a fever:
I'm not saying don't ever use medication. What I am saying is don't always use it.
Now I would love to hear from you! What do you think about the use of anti-fever drugs? Leave a comment below and I'll be back next week with another edition of Doctor as Teacher Tuesday.

any suggestions of relieving the body aches that accompany a fever with the flu or cold without stopping the fever from doing its job?
Great topic and info Dr. D! A family member routinely administers Tylenol quite quickly to one child (6 yrs) when he has a fever. This is because his fevers run high and the main concern is avoiding permanent damage that may be caused be a fever-induced seizure. The source of this information has come from the medical field. What is the naturopathic industry’s approach to minimizing the seizure risk? Thank you.
How do u manage the fever
Good advise
Consider an Epsom salt bath in tepid water.
Simple hydrotherapy is probably the simplest measure that can be used to bring down a child’s fever. This could be in the form of a tepid bath, warming sock treatment (cold wet socks on the child’s feet covered with warm wool socks), or even just cold cloths.
Specific remedies can also be used under the supervision of a naturopathic doctor.
